Creating a project without a netlist
It is possible to use the full functionality of XJDeveloper even if you do not have the netlist for a board, although it will be more effort than if a netlist is available. This tutorial will show you how to create a project for a board without using a netlist, setting up the JTAG chain and functionally testing a non-JTAG device.
It is recommended that you complete the standard XJDeveloper tutorial first, as this will familiarise you with how to categorise and test devices.
Overview
This tutorial assumes you have version 4.2 of the XJDemo board supplied with your XJTAG system. This board can be identified by it having "Rev. 4.2" on the front, next to the XJTAG logo. The tutorial instructions will refer to the schematic for the XJDemo board - having this information will make the setup simpler, although a schematic is not necessary to set up a board.
If you do not have a XJDemo board version 4.2, please contact XJTAG or your local distributor for a solution.
This tutorial will cover the three main stages involved in setting up a manual board:
- Setting up the JTAG Chain
- The tutorial begins by setting up the information about the JTAG devices in the chain
- Learn Connections
- The minimal information that we need to know before we can drive onto the board safely is set, then XJDeveloper will automatically learn the connections between the JTAG devices.
- Functionally testing non-JTAG devices
- Non-JTAG devices can be manually added to the project and functionally tested using XJEase tests from the library. This can be done without having run the learn connections tool.
